Refund policy

Refund policy

Short version: if a piece arrives different from how it was listed, we refund it in full, including shipping. If you buy a piece and simply change your mind, all sales are final. Not sure which applies to you? Ask before you buy.

Returns

Everything here is one of one. There is no second Rookwood jar in the back room. That shapes how this has to work, in both directions.

What we guarantee

Every piece arrives as described, or we make it right.

Before anything is listed, it is handled, measured, photographed, and looked up. Damage is named specifically and located. Marks are reported as what they are. When provenance can’t be established, the piece goes in Found rather than Named, and the listing says so.

We take extra care with higher-value and fragile pieces, including insurance or signature confirmation when appropriate. If something breaks in transit, that is on us, not you.

If a piece arrives and the listing was wrong, that is our error. That covers:

Damage we didn’t disclose

Measurements that don’t match

An attribution or mark that doesn’t hold up

Anything broken in transit

If a piece arrives damaged, send a message through our contact page within 48 hours of delivery with photographs of the item and packaging. For other issues with the accuracy of the listing, contact us within 14 days of delivery.

Final sale policy

All sales are final. We don’t accept returns because a piece didn’t suit the room — on any piece, in any collection.

On one-of-a-kind objects we can’t absorb that, and pretending we could would mean pricing everything higher to cover the ones that come back. We would rather keep the prices honest.

Named pieces carry this same rule but are sold explicitly as final sale, the way an auction house sells them — because the price and the provenance claims are highest there, and we want that stated plainly before you buy.

Named pieces

This is not us being difficult. A hundred-year-old glaze survives shipping exactly once as safely as it can. Every extra journey is a real risk to an object that has already outlived everyone who made it. We would rather it travel once.

The accuracy guarantee above still applies to every Named piece, without exception. Final sale means we don’t take it back because you changed your mind. It has never meant we would leave you with something we described wrongly.

So ask first, please

This is the part we actually want you to use.

Before you buy, ask for more photographs. Ask for a measurement we didn’t list. Ask what the glaze looks like in daylight, whether the lid sits tight, how heavy it is in the hand, whether it will look right beside the thing you already own. Ask for a fuller account of a piece’s condition and we will tell you exactly what we see.

We would far rather spend twenty minutes helping you decide than have you receive something that isn’t right. Send a message through our contact page. There is no such thing as too many questions about an object that has already lasted a hundred years.

If a piece does come back

When we ask for something to be returned, it must go back in the box and packing it arrived in. Keep them until you are sure.

Most breakage on returns happens in repacking, not in the original journey. We build the box for the object. A different box, however careful, is a different risk.

If a returned piece comes back without its original box and packing, or arrives damaged because of how it was repacked, we will assess the damage and may refund at a reduced amount that reflects it. This is the one exception to a full refund.

Sets

A Few Things groupings are sold complete, and returned complete.

Refunds

Once a piece is back and checked, and the return is due to a listing error on our part, the refund goes to your original payment method in full, including shipping. Your bank decides how long it takes to appear — usually a few business days, occasionally longer.
