A Coquille bowl by Paul Kedelv for Flygsfors, signed and dated 1957 on the base.
Coquille is French for shell. Kedelv took the idea and made it magenta. Each piece in the series is cased in layers. Here a magenta shell surrounds a cobalt core, with a thin white line just inside the rim. That line is the giveaway. Collectors look for it first, and now you will too.
The form is asymmetric, with one end lifted like a lip. It catches light well on a hearth, a console, or a low table near a window. It reads best empty. Keys will be tempted. Resist.
Nearly seventy years old and still the brightest thing in the room.
Signed "Flygsfors-57" and "Coquille" on the base. No chips or flea bites. Scattered surface scratches to the base from decades of use, as shown in the final photo. The bowl sits flat and stable.
Approximately 14 in. long x 9 in. wide x 5 in. high.
