For a December birthday, or someone who reads.
A cotton flour sack towel, hand-embroidered with the narcissus, December's birth flower, named for the boy in the myth who couldn't stop admiring himself. Seems fair on a birthday. Blush petals, sage stems, gold French knot centers. Washed twice, so it's already settled. Flour sack cotton is what our grandmothers kept for glassware, because it leaves no lint. It will see you through the holiday wine glasses.
The owl is a vintage hand-painted glass ornament from Poland. He came out of an old box of ornaments, alongside a West German clock. He sits on a stack of books, eyes half closed. He has read all of them and has opinions. The gold cap is stamped POLAND.
Hang him on the tree in December. The rest of the year, he goes back to his books.
Condition: Towel is new, embroidered by hand and washed twice. The owl is vintage, with no chips or cracks. The paint shows its years in places and may have softened from its original color.
Arrives in a kraft gift box, ready to give.
Towel: 28 × 28 in, 100% cotton. Owl: 3 in tall × 2 in wide.
