Two pounds of brass and absolutely no interest in being quiet.
A vintage cast brass goose, standing 10 inches tall with its neck stretched up and beak open. At approximately two pounds, it has a surprising weight in the hand. The hollow-cast body sits on separately attached webbed feet, with deeply worked feathers on both sides.
It has enough presence to stand on its own. Mantel, books, the end of a shelf. Somewhere it can look slightly indignant about whatever is happening in the room.
No maker’s mark that we can find. The brass has been gently cleaned, but not taken back to new. Darker patina remains in the feather work, with variation, oxidation and marks from age throughout. There is a shallow dent on one side of the breast, shown in the photos.
